It was whilst patrolling the coast line around Poole bay in 1796 that the captain of the yeomanry, Lewis Tregonwell, happened upon this beautiful place. He was looking for smugglers, instead, he recognised a spot where the Bourne river mouth opened to the sea as having huge potential and Bournemouth was born.

Standing on the cliff tops today one can easily see why. As a unique family resort, Bournemouth is situated at the very heart of England's south coast. Golden sand sweeps around the bay from Hengistbury Head on the eastern side to Sandbanks with the Purbeck hills on the western skyline.

With an abundance of hotels and guest houses Bournemouth has much to offer the visitor and resident alike. The town is vibrant all year round with the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) hosting exhibitions and conferences with evening shows and musical entertainment.

Bournemouth has a vast choice of pubs, clubs and restaurants with art galleries and museums to stimulate the mind. The more active among us can visit the many health clubs or gymnasiums which abound.

A superb central library is made use of by the Bournemouth university, college and language students who visit the town and in the summer months Bournemouth's award winning gardens are bustling and alive with activity.

Float aloft in Bournemouth's resident hot air balloon for a birds eye view of the town and you will agree, Bournemouth has it all!
